BJ’s Wholesale Club shopper charged after self-checkout ‘coupon’ trick saw him ‘leave with $1,208 of goods for $3.11’

A SHOPPER has been nabbed for allegedly leaving a self-checkout with over $1,000 worth of goods for just a few dollars – by using a “fake coupon” trick, claim cops.

Len Roitman has for months used the ruse to enter more than $60,000 worth of phoney codes at a BJ’s Wholesale Club store in Florida, the force also alleges.

Roitman, of Delray Beach, is facing fraud and larceny charges, reports Boca News Now.

It’s alleged that he was arrested after making a final transaction which saw him pay $3.11 for $1,208 in merchandise.

B.J.’s in-house security team worked with the Boynton Beach Police Department to arrest both Roitman and a store employee late last week, the paper said.

Cops allege Roitman was involved in a months-long scheme to defraud B.J.’s Wholesale Club in Boynton Beach.

Roitman allegedly entered more than $60,000 worth of fake coupon codes while using a self-checkout lane in the store – with the help of worker Justice Buonsante.

The ruse was alleged to have begun in November 2022.

According to an arrest report, at that time Roitman asked for help while having problems using the self-checkout lane.

The B.J.’s employee allegedly used what is called a “type b coupon key” code to help the man.

This code allows any coupon value to be entered, the report adds.

Over the following months Roitman would allegedly ask for help from Buonsante while at the self-checkout.

Buonsante later told police she had received no compensation from Roitman, the report says.

It adds that she allegedly helped Roitman defraud B.J.’s out of more than $63,000 through 79 transactions.

The force said that, at the time of his arrest, Roitman had just paid $3.11 for $1,208 worth of items from the store.

He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
