Disney Announces The Closing Of Its Star Wars-Themed Hotel Just A Year After It Opened

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, isn’t the only problem for Disney these days. Pour one out for the Galactic Starcruiser Disney Star Wars Hotel. The hotel-slash-experience attraction opened just last year, and I guess that shit has been losing money fast because Disney has decided to pull the plug on the project after only over a year of operation. Why did it close? Well, probably because, upon reading up on this hotel, it sounds more like a Disney prison without a pool or windows, but maybe some people enjoy spending thousands of dollars to only eat when Disney tells them they’re allowed.

The Galactic Starcruiser “hotel” is in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, and opened last March after Imageneers reportedly worked on the project for over six years. The Halcyon is a 100-guest “starcruiser” with 6 special suites and standard cabins for everyone else. Here are some pictures of it:

It costs about $1,200 per person per day, and there are apparently family packages that run about $6,000. And what do you get for all that money? Ordered around by Disney staff, it seems. via People:

Unlike Disney’s other onsite lodging options, Galactic Starcruiser is not just intended to be a place for guests to crash after a day in the theme parks, but an experiential stay that encourages guests to interact with a cast of original characters from around the galaxy.

Visitors could choose to aid either the Rebellion operatives or First Order officers on board the ship, sample delicacies from around the galaxy, and spot familiar faces from the beloved franchise. They’re also encouraged to wear Star Wars-inspired outfits, though cosplaying isn’t mandatory.

Starcruiser is also unique in that it requires guests to participate in a full voyage, meaning they can’t hop into the parks at will (though there is an “excursion” to Batuu, aka Disney Studios’ Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land) or choose their own dining options. And seeing as the Halcyon is hurtling through space, the property lacks a few other standard Disney resort offerings, like a pool or varied outdoor spaces to enjoy the Florida weather.

There are also activities like “lightsaber training” and a lesson on how to “operate” the starcruiser.

Anyone who booked a room after September 30 is going to be contacted to modify their reservation. If you want to get into the prison ship, I mean, luxury resort, bookings have been paused until May 26, so you have to wait until then. Disney gave this statement:

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment…”

“This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

If Ron DeSantis does decide to build a prison next to their theme park like he’s threatened to, Disney could honestly help them with building it. They could turn the whole deal around and somehow snag the contract. They don’t even need to construct a new building. This one will do!
